78 Year Old Grandmother uses Kickstarter to launch board game Cosmic Capers

78 year-old retired music consultant and entrepreneur, Sylvia Rolle, has posted COSMIC CAPERS, an innovative new board game set in outer space, on Kickstarter, to solicit funds for its manufacture. Rolle hopes her game – my ‘bit’ to fill a vacuum created by NASA’s demise –will help to spark and keep alive the intellectual curiosity of our young and fuel their desire to study space-time phenomenon.

The native Floridian asks incredulously, How can our country not have a viable space program? What can be more important than investigating our incredible universe – our home – our extended selves? We need to imbue our young with an authentic sense of its wonders, which will inspire their desire to learn about it. Well, while fun to play, games can also teach and inspire, yes? So, I’ve created COSMIC CAPERS to add to our repertoire.

Rolle disdains media portrayals of aliens as inherently hostile and combative, lamenting that we ascribe our warmongering nature to sentient creatures everywhere, and seem unable to even conceive of peaceful co-existence. Well, she brightens, COSMIC CAPERS pits its two Space Commanders in a battle against the elements – not each other. In a race across our universe, as each attempts to dock at his Command Center first, while evading the pesky wormholes and devastating black holes at the heart of some galaxies, they must navigate their space craft to evade black belt radiation, meteorite showers and other outer space hazards.

Playing COSMIC CAPERS, a game of chance designed for 2 players, ages 5 to adult, will also provide an opportunity for grown-ups in today’s pressure-packed world to spend some quality time interacting with their children and with each other. Rolle says, Owing to their social stimulus value, I am an even more staunch advocate of board games for the young now because, all too soon, many will be lost to isolationist internet and arcade video games.
